The left and right sides are separate and are screwed together on each side of the drawer. The desktop is then screwed into place. The piece is substantial, the finish beautiful, though a sticker was placed on the finish that has taken some time to remove. I think it was meant to go underneath the cabinet and placed on the cabinet itself. Construction was easy enough for this 50 year old woman to do it with help only positioning the top.The desk only has one cable management outlet, so getting power into the left side is an issue. Also, hiding the cables for the monitor and the speakers that sit on top of the desk was a problem. The one hole for cables was only to get the keyboard and mouse attached in the drawer. The drawer is not wide enough to house the keyboard and mouse side by side, but you can pull the mouse forward and type with the keyboard set back a bit. There is no possibility the rough spots could have been missed so apparently the finished was put over the blemishes knowingly. Also, the finish is a plain dark brown, not cherry. Opening the drawers I found not just a little dust but dirt and wood shavings, something that couldn't have collected on the shelf awaiting purchase; another quality control failure. Finally, one of the drawer fronts was glued improperly and sticks out at an unsightly angle. The only way to resolve this problem is to somehow remove the drawer front without damaging it and reattach it properly. Not sure how to go about this, I'm not a woodworker. Why would a business market a product with such obvious fundamental flaws? I am not happy with the drawer handles either, the only word for them is cheap. But they can be replaced.
